Digital technologies have certainly changed the writing process. When I first started teaching I had lots of lovely posters in the classroom with a writing process that basically went: Brainstorm > Draft > Revise > Edit > Publish. There hopefully was a conference with a teacher and/or a writing buddy in there somewhere and if the published work was nice and tidy it went on the wall. Generally the publishing was the most important (and exciting for the students) part of the whole process.
Opportunities for real connectedness and writing for an audience outside the walls of the classroom was quite limited. How things have changed - in a connected world (thanks to digital devices) the focus now is more on the sharing and collaboration rather than the publishing.

And by the way the movie - very quick and not at all flash - was made in about 5 minutes on PowToon - available through Drive ..... Create > Add More Apps > PowToon. Lot's of potential for creative presentations - and all in Drive.
